We then proceed by replacing the oil filter, inspect and clean the filter canister, replace the oil pump screen and clean the area around it, replace or clean the flame sensor, clean the stack bi-metal heat sensor. After this clean the burner spray tube and replace the nozzle; inspect, clean and adjust the electrodes then the bleed the fuel line of air plus check the stack relay timing if equipped. Other areas of the burner are also checked such as binding of components and excessive play in components. The burner is the fired and the flame checked for quality, making sure that impingement is not a factor. The first level tuneup also determines the condition of the burner as well as the overall condition of the machine. This is when inspection of rust is done on return water piping, checked for leaking steam pipes, flue piping condition, water leaks on sight glass if a steam boiler, circulator pump and burner motor lubrication if required on hot water boilers, air handler belt inspection and lubrication of motor and shafts where needed on forced air systems. Tune-up of air conditioning can also be done at this time if desired.

Second Level Tune-up and Repair:

If a second level tune-up is required: we can perform cleaning of the heat exchanger to increase heating efficiency plus stopping of sooting and smoking, and checking and adjusting fuel to air mixture afterwards if needed to eliminate or minimize future re-occurrences of smoking and sooting. Above photos show this Utica steam oil boiler was leaking water internally even though the owner said it was not too long ago that it was installed to replace another oil boiler.

We then took emergency measures to seal it temporarily until a new Weil McLain Boiler can be installed in its place. The photos on the left show how it was done to minimize heat interruption during cold weather.

After a new Weil McLain steam oil boiler was delivered it was assembled and the piping for the steam riser and header pipes installed before the Utica oil boiler was decommissioned. A matching new Beckett oil burner for the Weil McLain replaced the older model Beckett even though this Beckett oil burner was still good. The digital automatic water feeder was then piped together with its appropriate shut-off and bypass valves.
